The Lovers card is the tarot card of love and the harmony between people. The card also represents choice and the relationship between the conscious levels. Because love means many things, this card can have many different meanings.

It is the card of emotions, but inspite of the heavenly quality implied by divine symbolism (in this case, the impression of an angel wing) there is a possiblity of tragedy and sadness. Love can be both beautiful and profane and it can wound as much as it can heal. Intense passion can become equally intense hatred.

A moral cross roads is symbolized with the intersecting gold bands on the top of the image. A decision must be made because all the paths are mutally exclusive. Careful consideration of all things must take place or the path chosen may be the wrong one.

Finally the male figure in the image has his eyes closed and must trust the female figure to see the Higher Influence (in this case the heart). The female unconscious figure acts as a bridge between the physical male figure and the spiritual influences.
